The Mother's Cove Program. This program is designed to provide health remediation services in the areas of maternal health and infant mortality prevention. We target zip codes 43232, 43227 and 43213 given that these areas are among the areas within the greater Columbus, Ohio area that has experienced the highest rate of deaths among black babies at a rate of 16 deaths per 1000 live births. The program seeks to educate 120 mothers per year through a series of 4-6 cohorts per fiscal year as to how to care for themselves before, during and after the pregnancy as well as how to care for their newborn to ensure that the first birthday is realized. This is accomplished through a series of courses that involve subject matter experts, largely from the field of health and wellness who address specific topics related to life-skills enhancement and overall self and family care. During fiscal year 2024, 112 moms went through the program and received a certificate of completion for having attended the sessions. The subjects that are covered during the cohort are 1) Healthy Me (general health & wellbeing), 2) Fund Me (financial literacy), 3) Teach Me (educations role in a better life), 4) Inspire are 1) Healthy Me (general health & wellbeing), 2) Fund Me (financial literacy), 3) Teach Me (educations role in a better life), 4) Inspire after having given birth. In order to address issues with transportation, we implemented a series of virtual training sessions during the second half of the fiscal year.

City of Refuge GoodLife Foundation implemented a summer experience for children between the ages of 8-14 to provide a safe, nurturing and educational environment for them during their summer break from school. The focus of the program was to utilize sports as a means of teaching teamwork, respect, and health and wellness awareness. Specifically, we held academic enrichment sessions to improve reading and math skills; conflict resolution and mediation trainings to help kids navigate conflict to achieve a safe and respectable outcome; field trips were included to give kids a combination of recreation (baseball games, trampoline parks, etc.) and educational (zoo, safari expedition, air museum, and science museum, + others). The vast majority of the attendees showed above average improvement across all measurement areas and found the experience to be fun and educational at the same time.
