NYS Small Business Services Small BID (Business Improvement District) Data Project - a grant- funded project, supported by the NYC Department of Small Business Services (SBS), in which Civ Lab partnered with two technical subcontractors (Urban Logiq & Ginkgo) to develop an online platform for NYCs small ($1 million in annual operating funds) Business Improvement Districts (BIDs). This platform, the NYC Places Data Hub, offers BIDs ground-level intelligence about their commercial districts and neighborhoods and what makes their BID attractive to prospective and current customers and businesses. This platform offers a system that can provide BIDs with economic development and mobility insights into their neighborhoods, allowing for the visualization of data and mapping in such a way that it facilitates trend spotting and the generation of reports that can communicate local challenges and successes, identify needs for operational shifts, or advocate for expanded programs or services.
