Kc rising was formed to help kc grow faster and more intentionally. It is business-led, metrics-based and long-term focused. Kc businesses lead this charge by nurturing partnerships and cultivating innovation. We amplify community efforts by aligning corporations, foundations, nonprofits, governments, educational institutions, human services groups, civic leaders, and members of the public, accelerating a future of inclusive regional prosperity. Administrative tasks are largely accomplished through three co-sponsoring entities, their respective staff members, and kc rising's director. All co-sponsors contribute funds and/or staff time to the initiative. The civic council is fiscal agent for kc rising. Accordingly, most revenue and out-of-pocket expense flow through its operating account.
The civic council sponsors a nine-month civic leadership development program called kansas city tomorrow (kct). The civic council believes that the ongoing success of any community demands that its current leaders put considerable effort toward identifying, encouraging, and developing its future leaders. With a mission to be the best source of new leadership anywhere in the region, kct has an impressive track record and a laudable list of more than 800 alumni - including several current members of the civic council - who today hold senior positions in business, civic, philanthropic, and not-for-profit organizations across the kansas city area. The kct program was transferred to the civic council foundation in 2022, but civic council still supports the program with funding, resources, and support.
