Mission

The mission: the theatre is dedicated to providing high-quality performing arts to enhance the quality of life in the lehigh valley community. Civic carries out its mission by presenting affordable theatre, music and art-house cinema, and by creating opportunities for adults and youth in the community to learn and apply the theatre arts, working with professionals as well as each other. In addition, workshops, classes, performances and an outreach program support the development of young people.

Programs

3 programs

Civic's theatre education program - includes its theatre school, which offers three sessions spanning preschool though high school and serves a total of 300 students through on-site classes each year. Civic also conducts an outreach program to children at academic risk through local schools, libraries and youth organizations with its arts-infused literacy promotion program, reading with cat in the hat and friends. An interactive dramatic reading by actor-facilitator in costume is followed up by class activities that promote reading as a lifetime habit. More than 80 children's roles are offered through open auditions to the annual production of a christmas carol, an intergenerational production. School matinees are offered to schools at deeply discounted ticket prices. Additionally, free tickets are distributed to local youth organizations which have an interest in attending theatre productions.

Expenses: $148K

Civic film - offers screenings of 60 american independent, foreign and documentary films each year. These noncommerical films explore new artistic territory outside of classical hollywood narrative and engage viewers in the understanding of societal issues, the personal struggles and strengths of ordinary people, and many that offer insight into the human experience.
