Ccai's conferences and events promote education, networking, and knowledge sharing. In 2024, we organized one-day workshops at top ai and machine learning venues (amld 2024, iclr 2024, and neurips 2024); these workshops drew several hundreds of participants, and collectively featured almost 200 accepted research papers. Ccai also organized two events at climate week nyc, and one event at the un climate change conference, aimed at mobilizing and building connections between academic, industry, and policy audiences.

Expenses: $182K

The climate change ai summer school is designed to educate and prepare participants with a background in artificial intelligence ai and/or a background in a climate change related field to tackle major climate problems using ai. Our 2023 and 2024 editions consisted of two independent components - an open to all virtual program (which in total drew 16k registered participants across both editions) and a selective in-person program (which has hosted approximately 60 participants across both editions). Courses were conducted by members of climate change ai and world-renowned experts in ai and climate change.

Expenses: $158K

Ccai's innovation grants program awards seed grants supporting research, deployment, and the creation of datasets and tools. This innovation grants program also enables the creation of key partnerships that accelerate the research-to-deployment cycle, creating synergies between academic researchers, non-profits, startups and other companies, and governmental or intergovernmental organizations. In 2024, we continued supporting our 2022 and 2023 grantees, as well as selecting a cohort of approximately 10 new 2024 grantees. This program was run in partnership with future earth (with climate change ai leading the call design, grant review and selection, and post-award grantee support, and with future earth disseminating grant funding).
