Mission

The mission of coal river mtn. Watch is to stop the destruction of our communities and environment by mountain top removal mining, to improve the quality of life in our area and to help rebuild sustainable communities.

Citizens enforcement project monitor coal operations for violations and public hazards, oppose new mountaintop removal permits, and assist residents to do the same.

Show and tell energy education and policy project (steep) steep educates about the negative impacts of coal, works to improve energy policy, and demonstrates positive alternatives such as our solar power system. Steep hosts visiting student gropus and journalists and speaks at college and other opportunities.

Tadpole project: a project to restore the marsh fork of the big coal river and to foster community pride in the river. Appalachian community health emergency (ache) campaign: seeks to place a moratorium on the issuance and renewal of certain federal authorizations for mountain top removal coal mining until a health study is conducted
