Mission
CHAMP's mission is to improve the lives of people with migraine, cluster, and other headache diseases by aligning coalition participants and empowering patient voices. CHAMP brings together the most influential patient advocacy organizations and leaders in the area of migraine, cluster and headache diseases. CHAMP enhances communication, coordination, and collaboration to more effectively fight stigma and help people achieve fair access to treatments. Our greatest strength is our coalition participants. In 2024, CHAMP connected more than 80 patients, doctors, advocacy organizations, industry partners and national nonprofit leaders to strategize and partner on headache disease challenges, including diagnosis timeline, barriers to treatment and care, and disease education efforts for patients and healthcare providers. Action items developed out of the 2024 Elevate meetings include plans for headache language into medical exam processes, expanded provider community engagement, and enhanced research engagement and headache representation.
In 2024, Retreat Migraine was produced in a virtual format and continued to be the only conference in the U.S. created by and designed for people living with migraine disease. With a focus on education, advocacy and community-building from the patient-perspective, this experiential event brings together patients and care-givers with leading migraine stakeholders. The event hosted 427 attendees and included 4 patient stories and 5 education sessions.
The Coalition for Headache and Migraine Patients (CHAMP) engages its 22 coalition leaders in meetings throughout the year to communicate, educate and advocate on behalf of people living with headache diseases. In 2024, we reached an estimated 1.4 million individuals through our collective social media efforts. In addition, the Coalition leveraged Migraine and Headache Awareness Month to continue unified messaging across the headache disease community. The theme, Myth Truth Action, was used to help end myths about headache disease and illuminate the truth of the debilitating symptoms. Outcomes of the campaign included 546 media pickups, 170.3 million audience reach and 45,000 website views.
