Summer programsduring the summer of 2024, cdri hosted middle school summer programs in three cities: san diego, pasadena, and san pablo. A total of 129 middle school and elementary school students participated. Additionally, 63 high school and college-age youth were trained and engaged as tutors and coordinators of the summer programs. The total program hours across the three sites was 274 hours. Participants strengthened language and math abilities through study; they played sports and learned crafts. The program was offered free of charge and targeted under-served neighborhoods in large urban centers. The academic tutors were youth from these same neighborhoods. They were given small stipends.
Academic tutoringcdri offers academic tutoring to middle school students to enhance their intellectual abilities and address educational achievement gaps associated with socio-economic status. During 2024, 145 students participated in cdri tutoring in san diego, pasadena, and san pablo. Tutoring took place multiple days per week on school grounds and at community centers.
Cdri hosts annual or semi-annual camps that extend educational experiences to college students beyond the five neighborhoods where it currently operates. The program develops a pool of future collaborators for cdri's current and expanding neighborhood initiatives.
