Concert of traditional folk and American roots music. The Colerain Center was thrilled to share a performance by Nashville legend Kieran Kane with our rural community. Opportunities to experience live music, especially of this caliber, are rare in rural central Pennsylvania, and when such opportunities do come, the ticket price are not affordable for rural families. Throughout the 1800s, the Colerain Forges Mansion was a place for the community to experience live music and learn about music in classes taught by the iron master's daughter, Kate Stewart. Today, the Colerain Center is continuing this legacy.
Traditional end-of-the season community gathering and concert. From the 1940s through the 1960s, the Colerain Forges Mansion hosted a community picnic and concert to celebrate the end of the summer and raise money for various causes. This year, the Colerain Center revived this tradition featuring local musicians who have been performing in central Pennsylvania for over 60, many of whom have been friends of Colerain for decades.
In addition to the three described above, the Colerain Center hosted its first art show in February by a local photographer and writer. We also hosted several emerging musicians who spent a week at the Colerain Forges Mansion rehearsing and composing. In addition, we led regularly scheduled house tours as well as historic blacksmithing and archaeological demonstrations.
