Mission
Colorado Firecamp's mission is to protect life, preserve communities, and conserve America's wildland resources by training students for suppression of wildfire, mitigation of wildfire risk, and stewardship of forests and grasslands. The development of personal responsibility, leadership and teamwork through reaching vocational goals supports youth, veterans, and the underemployed in achieving certification while finding a sense of purposeful service to community. A total of 787 students were trained as wildland firefighters and sawyers in 2022. Firecamp also expanded its community forestry and wildfire mitigation program as established in 2021.

Firecamp employed a full-time forester to engage with individual property owners and subdivision home owner associations to address wildfire risk mitigation and forest health concerns. Assistance was provided for landowners to apply for federal grant funding through the Natural Resource Conservation Service, as well as executing a 125-acre roadside thinning/shaded fuelbreak project for a subdivision that was awarded federal and local financial assistance in 2022. Colorado Firecamp partnered with the Southwest Conservation Corps in crew training, equipment support, and project management for 2 workforce crews during 2022 to achieve the forestry project goals as determined in the awarded grant.
