Mission
The mission of Community Solidarity is to share millions of pounds of free groceries and other necessities across Long Island and the NYC metropolitan area. We organize food rescue programs with local businesses we share school supplies and operate a 24 7 emergency food relief hotline.
Programs

Community Solidarity collects fruit and vegetable plants flowers and seeds and shares them directly with people in need across Long Island and the NYC Metropolitan area. This is done to foster sustainable food sources for people in need and to increase the general nutrition in the geographic regions of our operations. In 2024 Community Solidarity collected and distributed an estimated 828,378 pounds of plants seeds flowers and other gardening materials. This expense can be seen on Part IX: Line 24b.
Community Solidarity collects and shares new used clothing and home goods for distribution directly to people in need across Long Island and the NYC metropolitan area. In 2024 Community Solidarity collected and distributed an estimated 83,970 items of clothing. These included thousands of winter jackets sweaters shoes hats socks jeans and dress clothes. Community Solidarity also distributed various home goods that included items like personal computers blankets and towels. This also includes over 181,540 pounds of toiletry items like diapers shampoo and toothbrushes. This expense can be seen on Part IX: Line 24c.
Other program expenses total $92,892. And include the following. $19,875. For books collected and shared for free by community solidarity.
$51,007. For the collection and free distribution of school supplies to children in need. This is done as part of our yearly back-to-school support program.
$20,295. For the collection and free distribution of toys. Community solidarity distributes toys year-round but the primary focus of our collection and distribution of toys in 2024 was focused around the holidays.
$1,715. For the collection and free distribution of other non-cash material donations to people in need.
