Mission

Compaeros is a grassroots organization dedicated to the mission of empowering immigrants and their families through resource navigation, education, legal services, and community engagement in order to achieve the vision of a diverse, empowered and liberated community of immigrants thriving in southwest colorado.

Programs

3 programs

Education outreach: we provide culturally responsive educational programs, workshops, and events that equip immigrant families with the knowledge and tools they need to thrive. Through initiatives like la escuelita, our after-school program for k-12 students, we support bilingual literacy, academic success, and cultural pride for 40 students. Our bienvenido program offers a mental health curriculum in spanish, helping participants navigate stress, acculturation, and emotional wellness through peer-based support and community-building. Additionally, we organize public events for the broader community to raise awareness about immigrant issues, promote cross-cultural understanding, and foster a culture of inclusion, with a total attendance of 500+.

Expenses: $100K

Resource navigation: we empower clients to access crucial services for their well-being. Our diverse resource navigation assisted 800 clients this year with everything from food assistance, rental assistance, domestic violence assistance providers, sexual assault resources, reproductive health, navigating the legal or justice system, mental health, tax payment, winter clothing, college application, speech therapy, and small business creation.

Expenses: $44K

Community engagement: we strive to build leadership and power within the ~5,000 members of the immigrant communities of the four corners regions by supporting individuals in advocating for themselves and their families. Weve assisted immigrant parents in navigating the school system and organizing to successfully advocate for the hiring of bilingual liaisons to better serve students. We also facilitate support groups like sanando el trauma, which helps immigrant women process experiences of trauma and build resilience through shared healing. One of our proudest annual efforts is our cultural celebration, a large community event that brings together hundreds of residents to celebrate immigrant cultures through music, food, and storytellingstrengthening community ties and affirming identity. Through these efforts, we empower immigrant leaders to participate fully in civic life and help shape the future of our region.
