Culinary/wellness unit: culinary provides opportunities to learn work and home transferrable skills in a real-world restaurant environment by preparing healthy meals for clubhouse lunch and breakfast. Members learn cooking skills, budgeting, inventory management, sanitizing, and others. Wellness unit objective is to provide an inclusive range of activities that encourage member involvement and movement. Our holistic approach to mental health includes wellness, as we believe healthy members are better equipped to handle the stress and challenges of work and home life. 103 members routinely work in this unit.
Business/development unit: the unit focuses on side-by-side work with members in the operation of the clubhouse. This unit focuses on data reporting, finances, donor recognition, receptionist duties, grant writing, and grant tracking. By volunteering for tasks, members learn employable transferable skills that are in high demand in an office/clerical setting. 63 members routinely work in this unit and are learning, or improving, a variety of skills including; data entry, bookkeeping, budgeting, bill paying, receptionist, grant writing, proofreading, financial analysis, among others.
Compass house (ch) is a welcoming, diversified, inclusive community where adults with severe and persistent mental illness are empowered to participate in their recovery process. We are accredited by clubhouse international (ci) and in alignment with their 75-year evidence-based model approved by samhsa. Ch is a group of committed, compassionate advocates for adults living with mental health conditions. Everything we do in the clubhouse is designed to help members create positive changes that improve their life, work, and health. The clubhouse model is based on the ci model of recovery which has found that purposeful work is the key to self-recovery. This model focuses on members working side-by-side, with each other and with staff, as colleagues to build skills, confidence, self-esteem, and supportive relationships, while engaged in the day-to-day operations. Governance is by consensus, and participation brings access to employment, education, housing, financial literacy, social practice, and wellness, through tasks, workshops, and activities, to improve emotional, physical, and mental health. We partner with many local agencies and provide wraparound services so members have access to all available resources.
