On march 1, 2023, the institute entered into an agreement with rowan university, of new jersey (rowan) and the cooper health system (cooper), to create, collectively, the camden cancer research center (the center). The agreement is intended to create a collaborative joint venture among camden based institutions to further efforts to find new treatments and improve cure rates for cancer patients, both in the communities primarily served by the center and for the general public at large. Additionally, the center intends to develop the infrastructure and research initiatives that will enable the center to obtain national cancer institute (nci) consortium designation in collaboration with one or more nci designated cancer centers.

This project aims to establish a biobank of five unique lines of commercially-available induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs) from patient blood samples. The cellular reprogramming will be conducted by the Coriell Institute for Medical Research and samples will be housed and distributed through an additional partnership with the Orphan Disease Center at The University of Pennsylvania. Cell lines will be available to researchers in academic and for-profit research settings at a low cost, set to cover the long-term maintenance of the biobank effort.
