Mission

The mission of Corner of Love is to help displaced and vulnerable people affected by forced migration and poverty in Latin America by providing healthcare and services needed to gain control of their lives and thrive in difficult economic conditions and host countries.

HEALTHCARE BRIGADES & PROGRAMS/MINISTRY: At Corner of Loves Refugee Center near the Nicaragua country line and at clinics along the Mexico-U.S. border, tens of thousands of people who were fleeing government repression, narco-related violence, extreme poverty, and medical deprivation received life-saving free medical, dental, and optical care throughout 2024. Desperate families walked miles or rode buses chartered by Corner of Love from border crossings and settlement areas to reach our clinics, where volunteers, physicians, nurses, dentists, and specialists delivered comprehensive consultations, exams, treatments, and essential supplies. Approximately 24,000 individuals received emergency food, prescription and over-the-counter medicines, backpacks, shoes, clothing, household goods, and school supplies. Hot meals and beverages were served in safe, clean facilities offering bathrooms, washrooms, laundry, and Internet access. For many, Corner of Loves urgent intervention was the difference between life and death, directly alleviating suffering and restoring hope.

SPONSORED FAMILIES: In 2024, Nicaraguas escalating human rights abuses (which were marked by forced disappearances, assaults on clergy and religious institutions, and the expulsion of individual nuns and entire Catholic orders) fostered a dangerous climate under Sandinista criminalization of humanitarian aid. Consequently, Corner of Love largely suspended in-country operations for sponsored families, while retaining mission-employed personnel in Nicaragua. Persistent instability rendered 90 previously served northern villages inaccessible. All aid was redirected through Costa Rica and newly established temporary clinics near the Mexico-U.S. border, prioritizing Venezuelan, Cuban, and Nicaraguan migrants.

Expenses: $13K

CHAPTER DEVELOPMENT: In 2024, Corner of Love partnered with groups across multiple states to educate chapter leaders and supporters on forced migration and the challenges confronting individuals fleeing Nicaragua, Venezuela, and Cuba which were the primary drivers of the Western Hemispheres migration crisis. In Harris County and throughout Texas, community engagement events introduced the ministry to the public, while local sports teams and civic organizations were invited to fund raising and outreach gatherings to collect donations and join mission trips. Chapters in Montana, Georgia, Florida, and Washington State received visits and support to strengthen community involvement.
