The mission of the council on aging is to support the aging of elkhart county by providing services and resources which foster wellness, dignity, independence and quality of life.

Programs

In-home care provides direct and practical assistance with household management and personal care to assist seniors to remain in a clean, safe, and healthy home environment. Services were provided for attendant care, homemaking, and caregiver respite. A total of 8,615 hours were provided to seniors in fiscal 2023-24.

Life enrichment provides for a variety of senior services. Senior care management provides free senior-specific educational, socialization, and exercise activieties. State health insurance ship conselors are on-site to assist with medicare insurance enrollment and questions, as well as proces smedical savings plan applications for premium supplement assitance. Money management staff assist with rep payee needs. In addition, tax preparation services are provided. 532 tax returns were completed, 382 medical insurance consultations occured, and 38 ship applications were processed during fiscal 2023-24.
