Special projects:in our special projects program, we leverage our proven placemaking methodology to support community partners in bringing their projects to life. We offer a range of services, drawing from our past work and tailored to project needs. In 2024, we operated a free pop-up sauna downtown boston, converted a redundant slip lane into a pedestrian plaza, and enlivened a bridge underpass with murals and informational signs.

Community pop-ups:in our community pop-ups program we work alongside communities to activate vacant properties and transform them into communal living rooms, third spaces, and hosts for regular programming. They serve as hubs for on-the-ground research to determine long-term placemaking opportunities. In 2024, we worked with the union square neighborhood council to open a pop-up community space in a formerly-vacant storefront. During the 5 months it was open, we had over 3,000 visitors to the space. We found that systemically marginalized communities found a comfortable, welcoming, and safe space to connect over shared identity, people formed relationships across differences, the union square community retained its identity in the midst of neighborhood change.
