Mission
CureSHANK has a singular purpose: To accelerate the development of treatments for Phelan-McDermid Syndrome and SHANK-related disorders. Our approach is to identify and fund projects that overcome critical barriers to successful drug development and to coordinate scientific efforts to improve efficiency and speed in the field.
Programs
2 programs
CureSHANK will fund targeted research studies, including scientific projects that elucidate the underlying disease mechanisms, that identify and validate targets for drug development, and that de-risk promising drug targets. CureSHANK will also fund certain promising clinical trials readiness initiatives. These activities are needed to increase the number of drug targets moving from academic research labs into successful industry-sponsored clinical trials.
CureSHANK will advocate for increased funding of SHANK research by other stakeholders and strategize with researchers on initiatives, such as seed grants, that could help attract research investment by other funders.
