Mission

Curran homestead village has a new mission that seeks to collect, preserve, and utilize artifacts for exhibits, living history, traditional arts, and hands-on education. The museum has a second campus in newfield, in southwestern maine, that includes 25 buildings and more than 10,000 artifacts. Combined with the fields pond campus, the museum saw 3000 visitors. At newfield, there are workshops for children and adults year- round; there is a school field trip program that serves more than two dozen schools. Fields pond is developing similar opportunities. Seasonal events at both campuses include maple sugaring, ice harvesting, antique tractors and machinery, horse drawn sleds, woodworking, blacksmithing and domestic arts. Greater emphasis is on featuring workshops and programming that has science and technology learning objectives.
