Dance Canvas' mission is to provide opportunities and venues to increase the awareness of professional dance in metro Atlanta. We achieve our mission through three program areas of service career development, youth outreach and audience engagement.
Programs
2 programs
Dance Canvas youth programs: DC NEXT (a 4-week program designed to teach 25-30 students about the professional career of dance. The teens produce their own production, and work with choreographers from across the country. Students learn how to set goals, negotiate their future career plans, and identify the challenges and barriers to success.); Outreach: (City of Atlanta Centers of Hope, after school year long program for ages 5-12 yrs, in partnership with the City of Atlanta's Department of Recreation). Total outreach participants: 200-400 kids ages 5-18 yrs. We also provide workshops, lectures and master classes to Atlanta area middle and high schools throughout the year. We also provide field trip options for middle and high schools to attend our professional performances.
Audience Development/Free community events: Performances, Master classes, Open rehearsals for the community; Estimates of attendees reach 2,000 annually. Dance Canvas also started an online blog salon to educate the community about the choreographic process, as well as the importance of the arts in the lives of youth and the general community.
