Platform 2024: a delicate ritualplatforms are multi-week series of performances and events organized by guest-artist-curators and the danspace curatorial team. The platforms were conceived by danspace project executive director and chief curator judy hussie-taylor as "exhibitions that unfold over time and enact curation as a process of collaborative inquiries delving into artistic, choreographic, and curatorial concerns."platform 2024; a delicate ritual", was guest-curated by kyle abraham who led with dance as a "hopeful practice" of ritual, pulling from his recent experiments centering "life, death, prayer, vulnerability, fear, and desire." danspace built on a long-held relationship with abraham that began in 2008 and included commissioning his first major work, "the radio show", which received a bessie award. From may 2-june 8, platform 2024 included 6 commissions during shared evenings of intergenerational pairings: shamel pitts and nicholas ryan gant; taisha paggett and david roussve; and vinson fraley and bebe miller. Platform 2024 also included a conversations without walls with artist abigail deville, choreographer jaamil olawale kosoko, composer samora pinderhughes, and platform artists miller, fraley and curator abraham; honoring the late kevin wynn, who was scheduled to participate in the platform, 3 classes taught by his former students jason rodriguez and tamisha guy and a kevin wynn memorial celebration with performances by his former company members and purchase dance company from suny; and, a print catalogue with photos by gioncarlo valentine and conversations between platform artists and choreographer beth gill, photographer carrie schneider, director charlotte brathwaite, ecologist marisa prefer, arborist ethan woods, and acupuncturist steve pang.

Residencies and research fellowshipsdanspace invited two research artists-in-residence, niall jones and leslie cuyjet, offering four or more weeks of space, a fee, curatorial consultation, and production assistance as requested. Emily johnson/catalyst received a week-long creative residency in april and danspace provided andros zins-browne with a week-long residency at denniston hill in upstate new york with support from the nys danceforce. Danspace also offered artists from each of our programs additional creative rehearsal time in the space over the course of several weeks throughout the year. Danspace remained engaged in a long-term dialogue with artist research fellows devynn emory, okwui okpokwasili, samita sinha, and david thomson as part of danspace's center for dialogue and exchange in the arts (cdea), a creative incubator and experiment at the intersection of artistic practice and expansive thinking. A book launch for "reassembly" was presented in partnership with the center for art, research and alliances (cara) featuring readings and contributions by the fellows as well as joseph m. Pierce and danspace's judy hussie-taylor and seta morton.

Danspace's free online journal published two volumes featuring writing, images, and video from artists and writers including: devynn emory, yo-yo lin, malcolm-x betts, noa rui-piin weiss, nora raine thompson, mayfield brooks, camillo restrepo, mina nishimura, amanda hameline, andros zins-browne, naimah petigny, anh vo, and koma otake. Danspace project continues to offer affordable office space to independent choreographers as well as partner with peer organizations, artists, and community members regularly, comprising the remainder of our program services.
