The Well at Oxon Run: Nestled in Oxon Run Park in Ward 8, The Well at Oxon Run is DC Greens' one-acre community farm and wellness space. The site promotes healing in green spaces by hosting on-site programming that aims to improve food access and wellness in the local community. Complete with 20,000 square feet of farming space dedicated to seasonal crop production, large community convening spaces, and an outdoor classroom, The Well at Oxon Run welcomes all community members to work in the soil, celebrate, and share experiences together.
Community Leadership Initiative: Our connection to the communities we work with is essential. It's the most powerful vehicle we have for driving change and improving the health and lives of the people of D.C. That's why our Community Engagement team creates feedback channels from the community to DC Greens about the work we're doing. It also helps us ensure that community voice remains central as we begin to imagine the work we may do in the future. In 2024, DC Greens launched Community Leadership Initiative (CLI), a leadership development program. Through CLI, community members with lived expertise are hired for positions at a variety of levels within the organization to contribute to the work and provide meaningful input in key areas, such as program development, strategic planning, partnerships, and community outreach.
Advocacy: DC Greens is a proud leader in the Food Is Medicine movement. Food Is Medicine (FIM) uses food-based interventions to help prevent, treat, and manage diet-related chronic illnesses. In the District, we aim to increase access to critical nutrition programs through D.C.'s health care system. Food Is Medicine interventions include produce prescriptions like DC Greens' Produce Rx program. DC Greens' advocacy efforts aim to integrate these nutrition interventions into health care delivery and financing systems, making sure that individuals have access to a spectrum of nutrition services available to them to meet their individual needs.
Lobbying: Activities to pass and amend legislation that creates a more just and resilient food system.
