Youth Food System Leadership: 1)Mentored 5 high school students and developed them into food system peer leaders; 2) Partnered with URGE to create training at the districts high schools; submitted a letter to the Detroit Land Bank Authority resulting in the City releasing RFP on developing processes for obtaining city owned land for land based businesses; 3)Third year hosted Food Power Awards;4)Participated in career days at local high schools; and 4)partnered with Detroit Health Dept to create a food metrics report.
Detroit Food 2018 Summit: Participated in 8th Food Summit which drew 250 attendees. The 2-day event included workshops, plenary sessions and a resource fair. Mackinaw Policy Conference: Focus to ensure urban agriculture, the environment and efforts to foster equitable and sustainable food system remain in policy discussion.Harvesting Health: Convened a work-group that allows health care providers, insurers and those working towards a health environment and food system to meet regularly and work on initiatives. The event is being modeled around the state.2018 Voices for Healthy Kids SNAP Policy Summit: Hosted by American Heart Assoc: Designed to show how a community collaborative process can lead to positive movement and policy change.
Food Literacy for All: Collaboration with U of Mich Sustainable Food System Initiative for 2018 winter semester. For 2nd offering of the course, we participated on planning committee and helped shaped speakers series class available at U of Mich for credit. Invited to continue class for 2019 fall semester. Michigan Good Food Charter: participate with food leaders and practioners for state in visioning session. Film and Panel Discussion: partnered with Campus Kitchen focused on reducing food waste.
