Food for All: The Food For All programs, in cooperation with our community partners, addresses food insecurity by distributing high quality fresh produce to residents of Yancey County at no charge. From June to September 2024, Dig In served an average of 205 families weekly through our Harvest Share and Cosecha Para El Pueblo walk-up free markets. An additional 100+ households received produce through a summer delivery program available to families with school-aged children. Throughout the fall, 100 low-income senior households received pre- packaged shares as well. These programs were supported by 1 staff member and over 40 volunteers who helped distribute the produce.
0Learn + Teach: Dig In provided hands-on educational programming to 80 individual volunteers between April and September 2024 through Work Together volunteer days. We offered monthly online seminars, cooking demonstrations at our Harvest Share markets, and workshops on composting. And we mentored three farmers-in-training through a certified apprenticeship and internships.
