The Dorothy Molter Museum preserves and interprets Northwoods wilderness heritave through learning opportunities inspired by Dorothy Molter, the last non-indigenous resident of the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness (BWCAW)

Educational Events & Opportunities - In order to reach a diverse range of audiences, the Dorothy Molter Museum offers both fee-based and no-cost educational offerings, as well as accommodations. Fee-based events include a slate of annual programs including a February Museum dinner, a fully-outfitted Dogsled to Dorothys adventure trip to Knife Lake in March, and a fully-outfitted womens canoe trip to Knife Lake in June. No-cost educational events open to the public include monthly Museum open houses with special guests and family activities in June, July and August, and sponsoring the childrens marathon via in-kind services and programming to participating student classrooms. The Museum also offers complimentary admission to staff at several local educational organizations such as the Girl and Boy Scout bases and the Outward Bound school where councilors will be sharing Boundary Waters history information to participants.
Educational Outreach - The Dorothy Molter Museum reaches students via no-cost, in-person classroom programs. Additionally, the Museum offers no-cost adult programs reached These programs include themes on Dorothy as a young woman in a changing world, the life of Dorothy Molter, Dorothy and the creation of the Boundary Waters, and Dorothy as the Root Beer Lady.
