Mission
The organization was formed for charitable and educational purposes, to provide families with a support and education network from the time their baby is diagnosed with Down Syndrome, during each stage of development, and through adulthood. Support resources include newsletters, new-parent information packets, parent-match services, monthly meeting topics and conferences to benefit families, as well as educators and other professionals providing services to these families, and special events. The mission of the Down Syndrome Association of SWLA is to be a driving force in the Southwest Louisiana community in generating acceptance and belonging of individuals with Down Syndrome and to encourage a society in which people with Down Syndrome can involve themselves in community activities and be assisted in their development of the skills necessary to do so.
