To provide educational training and related support for neglected students and community members in severely impoverished villages outside of Moshi, Tanzania.

SPONSORSHIP PROGRAM: In 2024 EdPowerment funded over 12 higher-education and 10 secondary and primary sponsorships through our Tanzanian partner, Educational Empowerment Organization (EdPowerment). EdPowerment continues to provide all educational requirements, as well as personal needs, transport, medical and at times, family support for these students. In addition, EdPowerment provides transitional support for University and College graduates while they seek their first position in the workplace, often an internship.

Expenses: $35K

EDPOWERMENT BUSINESS INCUBATION CENTER: In 2024 EdPowerment developed the Business Incubation Center, begun in late 2023. The Center provides a way for secondary school graduates and other young adults to develop locally needed trade skills specifically in (1) carpentry, (2) snack/food production and (3) the making of reusable menstrual pads to be distributed in secondary schools and sold in local markets. The menstrual pad program, Wings for Confident Women, encourages better female school attendance and participation in society. At year-end 2024, the first steps were taken to add a Computer Training and Services component to the Center.

Expenses: $33K

Secondary school support:EdPowerment continued to provide extra support to targeted underserved and minimally-resourced secondary schools. Seminars teach critical study skills, demonstrate best practice test-taking strategies, and otherwise promote a positive approach to learning. Saturday Boys and Girls Clubs engage students in sports, arts and games, while offering practical lessons in local income-producing agricultural, product-based, or service-based activities. Women's Small Business Group:EdPowerment continues to coach and assist a group of 20 women who joined together in a soap-producing and selling enterprise. Malnutrition Prevention Program: In collaboration with Community Health Officers, EdPowerment continues to provide basic food supplies of beans, rice, cooking oil and sugar to the families of roughly 50 students identified as suffering from severe malnutrition.
