Educating 4 Leadership

Working with and supporting hydaburg city school district to strengthen the connection between the community and students to ensure a safe and trusting physical learning environment. It raises awareness of the critical factors contributing to more robust adult and student trusting relationships. The project identifies and addresses the need to unify governmental and non- profit agencies necessary to (1) improve safety and critical incident response awareness, (2) update the district school crisis response plan to incorporate the cultural values and behaviors of the community, (3) build nurturing cyber-safety practices that help avoid challenging and traumatic experiences, and (4) provide opportunities for youth to engage in supportive community projects. Goal 1: create a stronger and more trusting connection between the school and the community, resulting in a 100% safer school for 259 students, as measured by pre-and post-survey, focus group interviews, and behavior/discipline records.

Educating for leadership works with the usda, forest service, tongass national forest, and wrangell ranger district to engage educators in a proven, adaptable framework that empowers students to strengthen their communities. Educating for leadership works with the tongass national forest as an outdoor laboratory and testing ground for stem education. They endeavor to create youth stewards with technological skills that may be applied to the environmental problems of today and tomorrow. Anan wildlife observatory is a world-class wildlife viewing area where black and brown bears feed at anan creek, home to one of the largest pink salmon runs in southeast alaska.

Educating for leadership provided training and support to the development of competency-based education, school district grant development, mississippi valley state university (provide support to mvsu to have students produce videos for internet usage), supported the development of programs to include the university of alaska upward bound, grant development to the bureau of justice for school safety and strengthening public safety. Educating for leadership works closely with a consortium of school districts to facilitate grants that promote school and community emergency preparedness.
