Mission

Effective Peace Initiatives mission is to support research to develop evidence of what is or is not effective in reducing the human and economic costs of various kinds of warfare most cost-effectively, making the evidence available to peacemakers, and encouraging them to use it.

Gathering Evidence Program - EPIs Gathering Evidence Program builds the foundation for effective peacebuilding by systematically identifying, analyzing, and codifying successful conflict prevention and resolution interventions. Through initiatives like the Peace Activities Dataset, conflict-intervention mapping, and partner-led research collaborations, we generate practical insights into what works across diverse contexts. Our rigorous, field-informed approach ensures that peacebuilding strategies are rooted in real-world evidence, not assumptions. This growing body of knowledge empowers decision-makers, funders, and practitioners to allocate resources more effectively and achieve greater impact.

Supporting Critical Partners - Armed Conflict Location and Event Data (ACLED) and EPI are collaborating on Phase 1 of the Peace Agreement and Ceasefire Tracker (PACT) project to link ACLEDs conflict data with data on global peace activities, beginning with a case study in South Sudan. ACLED will lead the development of a data linkage framework, integrate peace agreement data, and pilot data collection with local partners, supported by $255,00 in funding from EPI.
