Elder care services senior volunteer programs provide seniors 55 years of age or older the opportunity to fill numerous community needs, while keeping themselves active and engaged.

Elder care services nutrition services programs have been serving seniors since 1972 by providing a hot meal which meets one-third of their recommended daily nutritional requirements. In 2024, 508 homebound seniors received 72,156 meals through the meals on wheels program.277 seniors enjoyed 29,489 lunches, along with social interaction and physical activities during the weekdays at 7 congregate meal sites. 437 volunteers delivered meals to participants' homes, contributing 22,849.5 hours and an in-kind service value of $601,398.84.

Our volunteer programs are:retired and senior volunteer program (rsvp) - 276 volunteers served 16,552 hours at 9 different locations, filling various needs at nonprofit agencies, adult day care centers, and other service locations.foster grandparent program (fgp) - 65 volunteers tutored/mentored 134 pre-k, elementary, and middle school students in 21 public school and pre-k locations throughout leon and 4 surrounding counties. Total hours of service were 74,903.senior companion program (scp) - 38 senior companion volunteers served 24,557 hours helping 52 frail seniors stay independently in their homes throughout leon and 2 surrounding counties.

In 2024, elder care services supported big bend area seniors with a variety of programs.elder day stay: 62 seniors with cognitive or physical impairments who could no longer stay home alone were cared for at our elder day stay facility, a safe, home-like atmosphere. In addition to individualized supervision, elder day stay provides assistance with daily activities, medication management, exercise, nutritious meals and snacks, intellectually stimulating activities and socialization. In 2024, 47,508 hours of care were provided at our facility.information and referral services: when you call elder care services, you reach a caring, well-informed counselor who is committed to answering questions and responding to requests for help. In addition to providing the right phone number for a community resource, we also offer the following emergency or short-term help: emergency energy assistance - 69 seniors received assistance with past due utility bills through the emergency home energy assistance program (eheap) for the elderly, community human service partnership (chsp) funds and private donations.emergency food pantry: the pantry is stocked with essential food items through donations of non-perishable foods. In 2024, 1,759 bags of food were distributed to seniors. The adaptive medical equipment (ame) loan program saves seniors the cost of purchasing items such as wheelchairs, walkers, shower chairs, canes, and bedside commodes. In 2024, 167 ame items were distributed.emergency assistance program: this program provides emergency items such as incontinence supplies, blankets, heaters, fans, furniture, and produce bundles. In 2024, 2,621 material aid items were distributed.emergency alert response: this provides security by connecting isolated seniors with emergency services through lifeline units placed in their homes.additional meal services: in addition to producing our meals on wheels for clients, our kitchen produces and delivers nutritious hot meals and snacks to various day care centers and afterschool programs on a contract basis. This helps leverage the cost of our meals.
