Empowering the Ages addresses the critical areas of school readiness, civic engagement and workforce development through developing mutually beneficial connections between children, youth, families and older adults.

Programs

Community Engagement activities spanned multiple topics in various settings. The Crossing Path program consisted of 2 multi-week conversation groups between 8 active older adults and 16 high school students. The Wellness Groups included 31 adults in 31 sessions discussing topics ranging from self care to sleep to grief. There were 8 Sharing Smiles concerts by 30 youth musicians that took place in 2 older adult living communities. 175 individuals and older adult living communities receive a weekly motivational quote sent by 2 teenagers. Developed an intergenerational program activity handbook for a child day and adult day care joint facility. Developed a program for high school students to support adults individually with technology.

Expenses: $30K

Workforce Development programs were held with high school and college students. At the high school level, ETA engaged 14 older adult volunteers who presented workshops and worked in small groups and individually with 299 teenagers on the topics of communication, financial literacy, future planning, resume writing and interviewing. At the college level, 42 older adult volunteers worked collaboratively on group projects with 100 college students majoring in Information Science.
