Mission

Our mission is to decolonize space and decentralize knowledge. We exist to make dispossessed communities feel, once again, a strong sense of home, belonging, and self-determination.

Programs

FREEDOM HOUSE AND CULTURAL CENTER - We have secured a purchase agreement for an 8,000 square foot site in Seattles Beacon Hill neighborhood where the Freedom House and Cultural Center will be a bustling cultural hub for our community and a direct response to the ongoing gentrification of Beacon Hill and the displacement of Black and Brown communities in the City of Seattle. We are currently running a capital campaign and environmental restoration work on the site.

Expenses: $221K

BLACK PANTHER PARTY NEWSPAPER DIGITAL ARCHIVE - Estelitas Library hosts one of the largest collections of Black Panther newspapers in the world, with 400+ papers spanning the duration of the publications lifespan. We are building a community archive for this collection, which includes a free six-part workshop series that teaches Black and Brown community about oral history and memory work, and storytelling as a form of resistance.
