Our mission is to empower the community toward self-sufficiency through advocacy, education, and community development throughout iowa.
Programs

The crisis and advocacy provides high need case management and wrap-around services in minority burmese dialects for survivors of violence and crime. Refugee advocates in this program help clients to create safety plans, understand their rights, accompany them to court / legal interactions, and work towards self-set goals. The program also provides local non-traditional activities for mental health access such as trauma informed yoga and healthy mind circles - support groups focusing on teaching healthy coping skills. Advocates also engage in widespread community education around violence / violence prevention in order to dispel myths and misconceptions.
The civic engagement / education program provides both a community based english as a second language class focused on citizenship preparation and voter engagement education/activities. Education is nonpartisan and provided in culturally and linguistically appropriate ways. Students are supported by both a lead teacher expert and a multilingual co teacher facilitate improved student learning. Engagement activities are hosted at regular refugee community events such as churches or cultural celebrations, helping an estimated 200+ individuals to register to vote in election years.
