Exposed Brick Theatre

Education: EBT taught workshops at six Minneapolis Public and St Paul Public high schools, and two universities. 90% of the workshops were provided at no cost to the public schools. Workshops included: Scenes from the play Muyehpen, which shared scenes from a traditional K'nyaw story; Storytelling & Character Development, which engaged students in activities to strengthen character development in conjunction with playwriting units; Acting classes, in which EBT artists taught classes about character development, tactics, and improv; and Social Justice Theater, in which EBT artists led social justice based theater activities and shared some of the history of how theater has impacted social justice movements. Consulting. Using an arts-based focus, Exposed Brick provides Equity, Diversity and Inclusion consulting to arts and funding organizations. In 2024, EBT led trainings for the Boards of several arts organizations and Employee Resource Groups.EBT also began a year-long equity audit project looking at arts funding in the state of Minnesota. EBT's consulting work continues to be the program with the most significant earned revenue. Number benefitting: 138

Artist Training: EBT provides quality arts classes to Twin Cities based artists. While open to all artists, the classes center artists from historically excluded communities. EBT removes access barriers by offering classes at no cost & reimbursing transportation and childcare. Our classes are offered as a series, so that participating artists can build community over time; with some series offered virtually & some in-person. Classes in 2024 included Storytelling for the Stage, Nora Montanez's Decolonizing the Artist, and Storytelling for the Stage 2: The Bake-Off. Total Benefitting: 115

Community Engagement. Community Engagement takes many forms, but is the work that we do in partnership with other organizations to use theater as a catalyst to inspire brave conversations and create change. In 2024, we partnered with The Remember Project to develop the script for a film called "Voices of Isolation." Using the stories and experiences from over 30 interviews with individuals living with dementia and their caregivers, the film explores the isolation often experienced around dementia. In 2024, we engaged in many educational and community activities around our production of Log Kya Kahenge. Specifically, we partnered with ASHA USA an organization dedicated to increasing health & harmony in South Asian communities & NAMI-MN (National Association for Mental Illness - Minnesota) for the to deepen conversations around mental health and to provide access to resources.
