Extended Housing Inc

Extended housing, inc. (ehi) purchases and/or develops properties throughout lake county with capital dollars granted to them from federal, state and local agencies and foundations. Ehi currently owns and manages 18 residential housing facilities, consisting of two group homes, one residential care home, seven condominiums, five apartment buildings, and three single homes (attached to one of these homes are three one-bedroom apartments). These facilities provide housing for individuals with social, emotional, intellectual and/or physical disabilities. One of ehi's most recent developments is mckinley grove, a 17 unit building that has support services available onsite, including onsite ehi staff. Mckinley grove has a formal tenant organization who named themselves the mckinley grove tenant board (mgtb). One of mckinley grove's tenants joined the ehi board of directors in fy 2020. Funding for the operation of these facilities is provided primarily by tenant rents. Although owned and maintained by ehi, the group homes and residential care facility are operated by another entity. The remaining properties are of the "housing as housing "concept. Tenants live in the units on an independent, permanent basis and pay ehi rent. Ehi maintains all units 24 hours per day, 7 days a week and provides utilities, repairs and general maintenance. Tenants pay 30% - 40% of the household's adjusted income, depending on the rental subsidy they receive. Ehi fully maintains all buildings from roofing, driveways, grounds, interiors, appliances, carpeting and tile, plumbing, heating and electrical.

Rental subsidy programs - assist individuals with severe and persistent mental illness to obtain and maintain permanent community housing. Funding for these programs is provided by the lake county adamhs board and the home program through the lake county board of commissioners. In addition, housing loans are available to assist with a security deposit or first month's rent. These programs served 85 households.
