Mission

To help end hunger and food waste in californias bay area.

Programs

And, extrafood operates a community meals program, which uses the excess capacity ofrestaurants and caterers to give freshly-made meals to people in need. In 2024,extrafood's small staff and 432 volunteers, organized, rescued, and delivered more than 4.5 million pounds the equivelent of 3,750,000 meals from 412 businesses, such as grocery stores, restaurants, caterers, and farms, and delivered the food to 235 nonprofit distribution partners throughout the bay area.

Extrafood reached more than 30,000 people each month with prepared food, fresh fruits and vegetables, dairy products, eggs, meat, baked goods, and packaged goods. And, extrafood reduced the massive impact of food waste on local greenhouse gasemissions, preventing nearly 40,000 metric tons of methane from warming the planet. Extrafood is ending hunger differently -- by leading a movement to transform ourfood system: from wasting food to donating it for people in need. As a result, investing in extrafood creates triple impact: on hunger, on the climate, andon permanent change in our food system. Investing in extrafood is investing in a vision: a vision of food justice: everyone in our community should have the food they need. A vision of sustainability: food waste and its massive harm to our planet must end. A vision of community: food waste and hunger are solvable problems; withour living, growing coalition of people and partners, we can solve them together.
