Faith In Action Of The Greater Kanawha Valley Inc

Our transportation program is our single most requested service. We offer this program at no cost to those we serve. We do incur some mileage reimbursement cost. Our volunteers have provided nearly 13,000 rides to non-emergency medical appointments since we were established in 2014. This program is essential aid to our older neighbors for whom finding reliable transportation is a significant obstacle. Having dependable, consistent access to healthcare services, courtesy of the many volunteers engaged in our work, can be life changing for many. It also serves to help form connections that mitigate loneliness and social isolation that is rampant in our senior population.

Our grocery shopping assistance program has been a lifeline for the senior we serve who have no reliable transportation and/or are not able to go shopping for themselves. This program works in a multitude of ways, designed to meet the needs of the individual. Sometimes that means a simple ride to the store. Other times it means shopping with the care receiver. Another option offered is for a volunteer to place an online grocery order that another volunteer picks up and delivers to the care receiver. Through these different means, our volunteers have provided grocery shopping assistance 2,500 times since our inception. In some cases, our organization pre-pays the grocery order to be reimbursed by the care receiver. This is the amount reflected in the "expenses" for this program, the vast percentage of which is reimbursed, reflected in the revenue number.

Faith in Action of the Greater Kanawha Valley has a collection of smaller programs offering unique services that are often difficult for our seniors to access via other agencies. These include a Library by Mail service, emergency food assistance, holiday meals delivered to their homes, Senior Christmas, friendly phone calls, minor home repairs with an eye toward safe home environments (grab bars, handrails, etc.), and special financial support for one-time needs like a new appliance, relocation, utility cut-off notices, and similar situations. Faith in Action of the Greater Kanawha Valley staff and volunteers have offered more than 13,000 individual instances of these services since our inception.
