Mission

The organization is committed to providing education and supportive services to strengthen the family unit and enhance family functioning. Through our programs we have seen many families avoid the situations that can lead to child abuse and provide the nurturing environment their children need. It is our belief that by reaching out to families in need and providing support, by preventing and alleviating child abuse, we save our state thousands of dollars in after-care costs.

Programs

3 programs

Parenting classes: 45 families received parenting education classes. All members of the family attend and learn skills in communication, behavior management, self-esteem building and nurturing. Step-family classes: 35 families received stepfamily classes. Families who are in a stepfamily, or parenting learning to coparent attend this class. The family attends as a whole, and learns skill such as emotion regulation, communication, financial issues, legal issues, and building new relationships while maintaining previous relationships. 27 families received in-home intensive parenting and life skills education. These families had open cases with the division of child and family services. The goal of this program is to keep children in the home (when safety is not an issue) while the parents receive skills to enhance their ability to nurture their children. 100% of the families that completed our peer parenting were able to close their cases with dcfs and keep their children in the home.

Expenses: $70K

Youth development: 145 kids served, ages 6-17. Children participated in whytry, an evidence- based program to build resiliency skills. Children learned various skills, including emotion regulation, resiliency, coping skills, and relationship building. They learned through various modes of teaching, such as verbal, hands on, powerpoint, and hand outs.

Expenses: $89K

Safecare: 26 families received safecare classes. Designed specifically for parents and caregivers of children birth through five who are either at-risk for or have a history of child neglect and/or physical abuse, safecare focuses on three key outcomes that are universally important for families to have healthy, happy relationships. These outcomes are: parent-child interaction, basic health information, and home safety. Parenting pathways: 67 adults were able to participate in various workshops through parenting pathways. 13 different workshops were offered to the community through community partners, held at our facility. We were able to hold monthly giveaways for those in need in our community, with 2,409 items given away at no cost to families. 511 referrals/information for families in need were given. 45 tabling events were participated in. 65 community presentations were given. 67 families were helped with various resources through our family advocacy.
