Mission

The Family YMCA of Emporia-Greensville's purpose is to advance our cause of strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. The YMCA is a powerful association of men, women, and children committed to bringing about lasting personal and social change by fulfilling its mission to put Christian principles into practice through programs that build healthy spirit, mind, and body for all. With a focus on nurturing the potential of every child and teen, improving the nation's health and well-being and providing opportunities to give back and support neighbors, the YMCA enables youth, adults, families and communities to be healthy, confident, connected and secure. As part of our mission our programs are accessible, affordable and open to all faiths, backgrounds, abilities and income levels. We provide financial assistance to people who otherwise may not have been able to afford to participate.

Some of our accomplishments include: Community Health Action Team Leadership - Serving as the driving force behind a coalition of local leaders dedicated to improving current health factors, while also creating generational change, in the City of Emporia and Greensville County; Quarterly Prayer Breakfasts - Bringing together diverse faith communities with guest speakers from various denominations and local churches; Financial Assistance for Inclusion - Providing over $25,000 annually toward memberships, child care, and Community Health Programs to ensure access for all-regardless of age, income, or background; Healthy Living Initiatives - Hosting healthy living classes in collaboration with Virginia Cooperative Extension; Annual Food Drive - Supporting local organizations that are directly addressing food insecurity in our community; Flexible Memberships for Workers - Providing intermittent employees working on multi-year construction projects access to the only local facility offering recreation for the entire family; Community Access & Partnerships - Offering free use of our facility to local nonprofits for meetings, training, and registration efforts.
