Supports independent family farmers & protects a healthy & productive food supply for american consumers. Promotes common-sense policies for local, diversified agricultural systems. Through advocacy & education, works to make farmers both ecologically & economically sustainable.

Lobbying and advocacy: farfa advocates in congress,the texas legislature,other state legislatures, regulatory agencies, and in the judicial system, to protect and advance the interests of small farmers through common-sense laws and policies that support diversified local food systems.specifically in 2024, farfa worked to advance reforms to support scale-appropriate meat processing, conservation farming programs, mcool and checkoff reform in congress;continued to pursue its lawsuit against the texas department of agriculture for overreaching regulations under the food safety modernization act and worked with members, allies and regulatory agencies to implement favorable legislation from the texas 2023 session and develop its platform for the next session.

Education and outreach: farfa educates both farmers and the public on food safety,soil health,farming methods, and regulatory, social & economic issues that impact our food system. As part of this program area, farfa provides materials, consulting and support for both producers and allied nonprofits on these issues. Specifically in 2024 farfa provided one on one consultations, webinars, and resource materials for farmers on cottage foods, meat processing and other regulatory issues; supported allied nonprofits organizing to support farmers markets and double up food bucksprograms.
