To perpetuate the memory and spirit of the men and women who achieved a permanent settlement in south carolina between 1670 and 1700 by the acquisition, preservation and restoration of historical records, documents and edifices related to the early colonial period of south carolina; by the erection of monuments; by the awarding of scholarships; and by the encouragement of historical research and publications of the results.
