Jackson County Farm Bureau spoke on behalf of a coalition of producers, agricultural associations and local families to the Board of County Commissioners the the importance of agriculture in Jackson County and its impact on the community. Agriculture is the backbone of the countys economy and culture, with 80% of the county's acreage in production. It is a vital sector that supplies food, protects natural resources and sustains a way of life. By educating our local county commissioners we are able to work towards the betterment of those engaged in agriculture and protect agricultural lands.
Farm City Week is a time to raise awareness of the public about the importance of agriculture in our community. We used this event to increase understanding, cooperation and relationships between rural and urban residents. We recognized outstanding citizens who promote the betterment of agriculture by recognizing The Farm Family of the Year. Families who practice best management practices to preserve our environment for the next generation is recognized.
