Highlands County Farm Bureau participated in the AgVenture program. This 3 day event brings students from the local communities to gain an understanding and appreciation for agriculture through hands-on experiences. Students rotate through 14 stations where they learn about botany, water conservation, and forestry, just to name a few topics. Students learn about how food goes from the farm to their table.
Highlands County Farm Bureau supports FFA and 4H students at the fair. We buy fair animals, have the meat processed and distributed to local food distribution sites. We partnered with the United Way in Highlands County and Florida Blue to purchase animals and distributed a total of nearly 10,000 lbs. of pork and beef at the food distribution sites. This program helps the fair exhibitors and those who are struggling to have enough food. This program highlights the importance of agriculture and works toward the betterment of those engaged in our industry.
