Lafayette County Farm Bureau participated inFood Check-Out Week which is a consumer outreach program to celebrate the abundant and nutritious food Florida farmers and ranchers produce. This event occures in February and serves as a bridge to National Nutrition Month in March. We use this time to bring awareness of the importance of sourcing locally grown fruits and vegetables. Our Young Farmers and Ranchers held a food drive to give back to those in need in our our community.
Lafayette County Farm Bureau members participated in several legislative events during the year. We take the opportunity to educate and inform local, state and national legislators on how policies impact agriculture. This year we spent a lot of time discussing the impacts of Hurricane Idalia and Debby to agriculture. The two devasting storms caused extensive damage to agricultural lands throughout all of Florida. By providing legislatures with information and showing them the damage it helps us continue to work towards the betterment of those engaged in agriculture.
