Mission
Established in 1980, the food bank of central & eastern north carolina is among the largest anti-hunger organizations in the united states. We work every day to provide food to people in need while advancing long-term solutions to end hunger in our communities. The food bank and our branch locations serve as the central hub of a network of 700+ partner programs throughout our 34-county region (through distribution centers in durham, greenville, new bern, raleigh, the sandhills (southern pines) and wilmington) including no-cost food markets, pantries, meal sites, and a host of initiatives serving children, adults, and seniors. Together, we're working to overcome hunger and create an environment where everyone in north carolina can thrive.
Programs

The food bank of central & eastern north carolina's retail donation program rescued and distributed more food than ever before, ensuring less food in our landfills and more meals for families in need. Through this program, our partner agencies picked up approximately 24 million pounds of food from local retail stores, a record for the organization.
Through our year-round operation of the federal nutrition program for seniors, the commodities supplemental food program, we provided over 8,750 boxes of food a month in all of our 34 counties.
The food bank not only feeds those who are hungry; we also work to benefit community health by working to address hunger at its root causes thru a focus on nutrition, education, and outreach. Our workforce development program provides education and employment sponsorship for individuals who are unemployed, underemployed, or justice involved.
