Mission

Food share is dedicated to leading the fight against hunger in ventura county by distributing over 16 million meals during the fiscal year.

Programs

3 programs

United states department of agriculture (usda) funded nutrition programs: commodity supplemental food program (csfp) and the emergency food assistance program (tefap) food distributions. Csfp provides a monthly "senior kit" box of food to low income seniors (age 60-plus) at no cost. Tefap allows for food distribution to low income families in ventura county. Food is distributed at no cost to eligible recipients. Nearly 5 million pounds of food were distributed in fiscal year 2023-2024 through these programs.

Expenses: $10.9MGrants: $9.3M

Farmworker distribution: the ventura county farms and ranches employ approximately 42,000 farmworkers. Although these farmworkers are vital to the local agricultural industry, there is a high rate of poverty and food insecurity among this segment of our county's population. During the fiscal year 2023-2024, food share distributed over 135,000 pounds of nutritious food to farmworker families.

Expenses: $193KGrants: $105K

Kids nutrition program: provides nutrition education lessons and fresh produce to low-income children at after-school sites. During fy23-24, food share operated this program at 17 sites throughout ventura county and served 1,000 students per month.

Expenses: $108KGrants: $99K
