Mission

The foundation for regeneration ('ffr') is dedicated to creating meaningful demonstrations that showcase the promise of regeneration through projects that catalyze both economic development and ecological health in kansas city.

Programs

3 programs

Circular economy - following the identification of the circular economy as a key industry cluster, the foundation for regeneration led a region-wide material flow analysis in collaboration with kansas city public works, johnson county, and marc. The study assessed waste streams, identified barriers to progress, and revealed a $250 million annual value in landfill-bound materials, which could generate over 5,500 jobs through circular ventures. It also produced detailed sankey diagrams and case studies, highlighting key opportunities for growth. In parallel, ffr partnered with missouri organic to support its potential to double in size, conducting a full operational audit and delivering a due diligence report. Ffr then helped launch strategic projects to support scalability, including tech upgrades and management systems.

Financial innovation - carbon positive kc supports regional and local projects that help kansas city households and businesses offset their carbon footprint. With approximately 20 members, the program has funded $30,000 in climate projects to date, offsetting 1,418 metric tons of carbon - equivalent to driving 3.5 million miles in a gas-powered car, burning 1.5 million pounds of coal, powering 180 u.s. Homes for a year, or the annual carbon capture of 1,700 acres of forest. As the program continues to grow, we've recognized the need for a long-term local home with dedicated capacity and alignment, and we are preparing for a transition of this initiative to an appropriate regional partner that can carry the work forward and expand its impact.
