Mission

Freedom Archives is dedicated to organizing and preserving a growing collection of archival media. This includes historical audio and video chronicling progressive social movements, poetry, and music for over 30 years. The goal is to preserve, re-master, and catalog all of these materials as a community-based resource. The second main purpose and function of the freedom archives is to provide documentary and primary materials for historians, educators, teachers, media producers, and other scholars and/or documentarians.

Programs

2 programs

Interns: Our internship program encourages engagement with historical materials and provides media production training as well as fostering a love for progressive history. All interns complete an introductory orientation program which familiarizes young people with the language, policies and workflow of our archives and helps them identify potential topics of interest.

Expenses: $34K

Researchers: We receive approximately 10 inquiries per week, from all over the world, about specific materials in our archives, additional resources to access and left movement history in general. We endeavor to provide thoughtful, accurate and comprehensive responses.
