Emergency Medical /Other Medical -- Many of the animals surrendered or brought in to Indianapolis Animal Care Services require significant medical attention for wound care, amputations, illness, and a variety of other severe medical situations. Many of this care requires off-site emergency veterinary treatment, all of which is covered by Friends of Indy Animals. Additionally, we cover spay/neuter surgeries, heartworm treatment, vaccines and other preventative care.

Other Program Services -- Includes a $20,000 grant paid to Indy Neighborhood Cats, a non-profit organization dedicated to improving the quality of life for unowned community cats by reducing overpopulation through trap-neuter-return (TNR). This helps IACS by reducing the number of cats and kittens entering the shelter each year. Also assisted with costs beneficial to the animals at IACS by funding kennel supplies, facility improvements such as fence work and shade sail installation, medical books and supplies, and volunteer management software.

IndyCARES -- IndyCARES is an IACS shelter diversion program that helps equip pet owners with the resources they need to continue to care for their pets, preventing them from being surrendered to and entering the already over-burdened shelter system. FIA assistance provided much needed additional funding to purchase pet supplies (food, leashes, litter, collars, flea prevention), spay/neuter assistance, vaccines and other medical assistance, and assistance with crisis pet boarding. More than 1,000 animals were diverted out of the shelter in 2024.

Adopter Support Program -- Once animals are adopted we want to equip their new families with the tools they need to be successful so their pets remain in loving homes and don't end up back at the shelter. Animals in the shelter can develop behavior issues if their stay is too long. To improve chances for adoption success, we provide training assistance for adopters whose newly adopted pets may have short-term issues. We also offer free classes to the public so they can learn more about what they can do to set their dogs up for success after bringing them home from the shelter.
