THE NORTH CAROLINA RACE PROJECT: SERVING SPANISH-SPEAKING AUDIENCES HAS FIVE MAIN GOALS: 1. HIGHLIGHT THE SCIENCE OF HUMAN VARIATION AND ILLUMINATE WHERE THIS UNDERSTANDING IS INCONSISTENT WITH POPULAR NOTIONS OF RACE; 2. INTRODUCE THE HISTORIC AND SCIENTIFIC COMPONENTS OF RACE, WITH A SPECIAL FOCUS ON NORTH CAROLINAS LEGACY IN THE RACIAL LANDSCAPE; 3. SHARE THE CONTEMPORARY EXPERIENCE OF RACE AND RACISM IN THE UNITED STATES AND UNVEIL THE INVISIBLE WAYS RACE AND RACISM HAVE INFILTRATED LAWS, CUSTOMS, AND INSTITUTIONS, INCLUDING PANDEMIC IMPACTS; 4. REACH STATEWIDE AUDIENCES OF DIVERSE RACES, ETHNICITIES, AGES, SOCIOECONOMIC STATUSES, AND GEOGRAPHIC LOCATIONS, TO ENGAGE IN THE MANY LAYERED, COMPLICATED, AND EMOTIONAL CONVERSATION ABOUT RACE AND RACISM IN EVERYDAY LIFE; AND 5. BUILD TOWARD A FULLER EXHIBIT EXPERIENCE AND MENU OF ONLINE ACTIVITIES TO SUPPORT AN INTEGRATED INITIATIVE ACROSS THE STATE AND SOUTHEAST THAT WILL CONTINUE TO GROW AND BE ACCESSIBLE TO ALL.
